Plug-in Hybrid

A plug-in hybrid combines a petrol or diesel engine with a larger battery that can be recharged at home or through public charging stations. It's like a stepping stone to fully electric vehicles, allowing you to drive on electric power while having an internal combustion engine as a backup.

Untethered

Some fast chargers may also have tethered cables, but some will require you to plug in a cable to both the charge point and the car. These cables are untethered.

Tethered

Both rapid and ultra-rapid chargers usually use tethered cables that are permanently connected to the charging unit, so you can’t remove them. Like a petrol or diesel pump, you take out the plug and attach it to your car to start charging.

How to Charge?

There are three ways to charge an electric or plug-in hybrid car. You will need one type of charging point.

Never worry about your Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle's battery running low during the workday. Workplace charging offers the convenience of charging your vehicle while you concentrate on your job. Simply plug in, and your electric vehicle will be steadily replenished as you go about your tasks. It's the perfect solution for those who value efficiency and eco-friendliness in their daily commute.

How long does it take to charge an electric car?

Charging an EV can be anything between 30-60 minutes and 8-10 hours. How long it takes to charge your electric car depends on the car's battery size, how many miles you do between charges, your charging behaviour and the power rating of the charger you're using.

There are three main types of chargers:

Slow

8 - 10 hours

Usually rated up to 3kW is mainly used to charge overnight at home or workplace. Takes 8-10 hours to fully charge.

Fast

3 - 4 Hours

Rated at either 7kW or 22kW and can usually be found in car parks, supermarkets, leisure centres. Takes 3-4 hours to fully charge.

Rapid

30 - 60 minutes

Typically rated from 43kW and found at motorway service stations, petrol stations, supermarkets. Takes 30-60 minutes to fully charge.

Full Charge

70.5 kWh

The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250+ is equipped with a substantial 70.5 kWh battery, which contributes to an impressive range of 324 miles** on a full charge. This extended range offers greater flexibility for your journeys, ensuring you have ample mileage to reach your destination with ease.

50 kWh

In the UK, rapid chargers, with a power rating of 50 kWh, are widely accessible, with over 8,772 chargers spread across more than 4,657 locations, ensuring convenient and efficient charging options for electric vehicle owners.

1h 5 Minutes

The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250+ can efficiently charge from 10% to 80%* at one of these rapid charging locations in just one hour and five minutes, allowing you to get back on the road swiftly with a substantial battery boost.

Why is the real electric range often less than specified?

The electric range varies depending on individual driving behaviour, route profile and environmental factors. ECO Assist allows you to travel further on electric power by taking advantage of the recuperation and/or sailing function. Auxiliary functions such as seat heating or climate control also has an impact on the range.

What is the difference between AC and DC charging technology?

The batteries of electrified vehicles can only be charged with direct current (DC). This can be found at IONITY charging stations across UK and Europe where the EQC has the ability to charge at 110kw. The home Wallbox charger, most public charging stations and “high-voltage sockets” all supply alternating current (AC). To make charging possible, EQ vehicles are equipped with an on-board charger – an AC/DC rectifier – to convert the alternating current into the required direct current. Charging capacities of between 2.3 kW and 11 kW are possible, depending on the on-board charger and the capacity of the charging cable (rather than the capacity of the charging station).

How environmentally friendly is it to drive an electric car?

The environmental impact of your vehicle depends greatly on your driving and charging behaviour. The electricity with which you charge your vehicle also plays a significant role: i.e., is it actually being charged with “green” electricity or an electricity mix? As a rule, all public charging stations are supplied with green electricity and a green electricity contract for domestic users is often only a few clicks away.
