London's ULEZ Expansion: A Cleaner Horizon for the Capital.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone was introduced in 2019 to cover London’s Congestion Charge Zone and was expanded in 2021 to cover the North and South Circular Roads.
This initiative was established with the intention of diminishing the presence of harmful pollutants, including Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, and Particulate Matter, thereby contributing to both air quality improvement and climate change mitigation.
To help clear London's air and improve health, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding across all London boroughs from 29 August 2023.
A limited range of vehicles are exempt from the ULEZ charge including agricultural vehicles, historic vehicles and military vehicles.
